Call for panels

WISE has established itself as a solid international community aiming at high quality research and offering the ground for advancing and progressing efforts in Web information systems and engineering. Previous WISE conferences were held in Hong Kong, China (2000), Kyoto, Japan (2001), Singapore (2002), Roma, Italy (2003), Brisbane, Australia (2004), New York, USA (2005), Wuhan, China (2006), Nancy, France (2007), Auckland, New Zealand (2008), Poznan, Poland (2009), Hong Kong, China (2010), Sydney, Australia (2011), Paphos, Cyprus (2012), Nanjing, China (2013), Thessaloniki, Greece (2014), Miami, USA (2015), Shanghai, China (2016), and Puschino, Russia (2017).

The aim of this 19th edition of the conference series on Web Information Systems Engineering is to provide an international forum for researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners to share their knowledge in the rapidly growing area of Web technologies, methodologies and applications. This edition will promote the theme of Web Engineering in the Era of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), two highly important areas for the world economy, in general, and the knowledge economy, in particular.

Panels at WISE 2018 aim to create a forum that draws together the thought leaders and experts in the communities to discuss timely and relevant topics of the day on the Web systems engineering.

A panel proposal should include:

  • a title
  • full contact information of the panel chair
  • a statement of learning objectives for the panel
  • expected audience and expected number of attendees
  • a statement explaining why the topic is relevant to WISE and timely
  • a topical outline for the panel (2-3 issues on which panelists are likely to have plausible but differing opinions)
  • a list of panelists (please indicate if confirmed or contacted), typically 4-5 besides the panel chair

To submit a panel proposal, please contact: Helen Paik ([email protected])

Submission Guidelines

Papers

Papers should be submitted in PDF format. The results described must be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Submissions must conform to Springer's LNCS format and should not exceed 15 pages, including all text, figures, references and appendices. Submissions not conforming to the LNCS format, exceeding 15 pages, or being obviously out of the scope of the conference, will be rejected without review. Information about the Springer LNCS format can be found at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html . Three to five keywords characterizing the paper should be indicated at the end of the abstract. The type of paper (technical/empirical evaluation/experience/exploratory paper) should be indicated in the submission.

Submissions should be made electronically in PDF format via the Microsoft CMT submission system for the WISE 2018 Conference (the link will be available soon...).

Accepted papers will be presented at WISE 2018 and published in the conference proceedings, which is published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). Authors elected best papers from the conference will be invited to submit an expanded version for publication in the WWW Journal, Springer.

Workshops

Submissions should be made by e-mail in PDF format with the subject title "WISE 2018 Workshop Proposal". Workshop proposals should include the following:

  • The title of the workshop
  • The names and addresses of the organizers, and a designated contact person
  • Brief description of the workshop, including abstract, objectives, relevance, and expected outcome
  • Tentative program committee members and speakers etc., if applicable
  • A description of the plans for workshop (e.g., program, keynotes, highlights, etc.)
  • The expected number of attendees and the expected length of the workshop
  • A brief description of past versions of the workshop, if applicable, including dates, organizers, sites, and any other relevant information

Workshop proposals should be e-mailed in plain text or as a PDF to the workshops chairs before the workshop submission deadline. Each proposal will be reviewed immediately after it is received.

Tutorials

WISE 18 plans also to host short and long tutorials. They will be part of the main conference technical program and will be available to the attendees of the technical program free of charge. A tutorial proposal should be formatted in the following sections:

  • Title
  • Abstract (up to 150 words)
  • Overview of the topic covered, including the reasons that the topic is interesting and important to the Web community at large
  • Content details: A bullet list of organization of the tutorial, in the order of presentation with estimated presentation time for each item (no more than one page)
  • Short bios of the presenters including their expertise related to the tutorial (no more than 100 words per presenter)
  • Preferred length of the tutorial: short (1.5-3 hours) or long (3-6 hours). If the tutorial can be configured to both a short one and a long one, indicate which part will be exclusively for the long version
  • A list of up to 20 most important references to be covered in the tutorial
  • (Optional) If the presenters have given similar tutorials before and if the materials for them are available on the web, links to them
  • (Optimal) Any specific audio/video/computer requirements for the tutorial

Proposals should be submitted via email (will be communicated soon) before the submission deadline. Notifications will be made by July 26, 2018

Camera Ready Submission

The WISE2018 Proceedings will be published by Springer.

The camera ready version of accepted regular manuscripts must conform to Springer's LNCS format and should not exceed 15 pages, including all text, figures, references and appendices. Short manuscripts should consist of 8 pages in the same format. Information about the Springer LNCS format can be found at: http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0. To submit the final version of your paper, please do the following:

  • Create a folder named WISE2018XXX where XXX is your paper ID. Place
    • the source files of your paper---including figures
    • the PDF file of your paper
    • authors.txt---The file should contain: Full names of all authors (surnames clearly marked by block letters) and their email addresses. The contact author's name, postal mailing address and contact email address.
    • scanned copyright form
  • Zip the folder into WISE2018XXX.zip file and upload it to WISE2018 submission system (will be available after the acceptance notifications).

The texts in all files must be identical. The volume editors will check the contributions, decide in which order they shall appear in the printed volume and will send the complete material on to Springer.
